The Foreign Language department includes classes in Spanish, French, Italian, and German. There is a class in each area of language available for the student is at JCHS. The foreign language department faculty includes:
FRENCH I: Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 - Year Recommend: B average in language arts. This course is an introduction to
French through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students
will experience a variety of French-speaking cultures and will learn basic
French conversational skills and structure through oral and written exercises,
skits, videos, songs, games, and group activities.
FRENCH II: Grade 10, 11, 12 - Year Prerequisite: French I This course begins with a review
of French I vocabulary, sentence structure, and conversation. Language
abilities will be further developed through the expanded study of vocabulary,
grammar, and French – speaking cultures.
A stronger emphasis will be placed on conversational skills.
FRENCH III: Grade 11, 12 - Year Prerequisite: French II This course features more in-depth
speaking, reading and writing on a variety of current, cultural, and historical
topics. Students will also learn more complex speech and grammar
patterns.
FRENCH IV (H): Grade 12 - Year Prerequisite: French III This course reviews all grammar learned in French I – III, and focuses on the refinement and mastery of speaking, reading, writing, and listening comprehension skills.
SPANISH I: Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 - Year Recommend: B average in language arts. This introductory course focuses on the basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing through the study of vocabulary, basic grammar and Hispanic culture. Many Spanish speaking countries will be studied, as well as the Spanish influence in the United States. Other important concepts addressed will be numbers, dates, telling time, weather, and present tense verbs. SPANISH II: Grade 10, 11, 12 - Year Prerequisite: Spanish I This course continues the development
of the language skills, beginning with a review of vocabulary and grammar
studied in Spanish I. Emphasis in Spanish II is placed on culture,
broadening one's vocabulary and continuing the study of grammar, leading
to the ability to express oneself more easily in Spanish.
SPANISH III: Grade 11, 12 - Year Prerequisite: Spanish II Spanish III consists of readings
and activities covering a variety of subjects science, math, geography,
history, short stories, poems, Hispanic culture, etc. Also included
is a grammar review plus the introduction and use of the present and imperfect
subjunctive.
SPANISH IV (H): Grade 12 - Year Prerequisite: Spanish III Spanish IV is devoted to vocabulary building, cultural and informative readings and refinement of oral and written communication in Spanish.
All Italian Courses are dependent upon course scheduling.
Recommend : Minimum C average in language arts.
