Coming soon to a school near you... BYOD!
What is BYOD?
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) is the policy of allowing students to use personally owned wi-fi enabled devices at school.
The BYOD program will allow students in participating schools (Illini and JCHS) to use their personally owned Wi-Fi enabled devices (laptops, smart phones, tablets, etc.) to connect to the District’s “Student BYOD” wi-fi network. Teachers facilitate the use of student devices by integrating instructional strategies that embed Web 2.0 tools, Internet research, and applications to engage students in curriculum content and collaboration with peers.
Objective of our 1:1 Laptop & BYOD policy in the Classroom
“To be ready for college, workforce training and life in a technological society, students need the ability to gather, comprehend, evaluate, synthesize and report on information and ideas, to conduct original research in order to answer questions or solve problems, and to analyze and create a high volume and extensive range of print and non-print texts, in media forms old and new. The need to produce and consume media is embedded into every aspect of today’s curriculum.” (from www.corestandards.org )
Are there BYOD requirements?
There are only a couple requirements for your student’s personal wi-fi enabled device.
Parents will complete an on-line “BYOD/Parent Form” in Skyward Family Access.
Students will complete an on-line “BYOD/Student Form” in Skyward Student Access.
Note: Skyward Forms will be available in Family & Student Access soon...
Is there a cost for BYOD access?
There is a $25 non-refundable/non-proratable BYOD Fee to access the Student BYOD Wi-Fi network at school. This fee replaces the $85 Technology Fee and can not be waived or paid by a Technology Grant. If a student uses a personal device and later decides that they would rather use a district laptop, the BYOD Fee may be applied to the standard Technology Fee.
Note: Jersey CUSD No. 100 WILL NOT provide advanced technical support for your student's personal device. The student will be expected to understand how to use the personal device to access the Internet and perform other tasks required for classroom work. This may include the install of additional software or apps.
More information will be posted to the district web site soon, so stay tuned and have a safe and enjoyable summer!!!
