Taking Medication at School

Schools are required to follow Illinois licensing laws as well as Illinois school code when administering medication to children.

  1. Only those medications which are necessary to maintain the child in school and must be given during school hours shall be administered.
  2. Call the school nurse and discuss your child’s medication needs.
  3. Obtain a medication form from your child’s school. This form must be completed and signed by your doctor, and parent. (No prescription or over the counter medication will be given without this form on file at the school.)
  4. Medication must be brought in the original container with the correct medication label. (Check with your pharmacist for 2 bottles.)
